Handcarved Long Island NY Folk Art Shorebird Decoy Search Handcarved,Primitive Folk Art Shorebird Decoy we have a primitive, handcarved shorebird decoy by Long Island NY folk artist DAB Sunny of Dayton Decoy,in Sea Cliff,NY.Fashioned after a real 100 year old working Plover Decoy,this basswood decoy measures approxmately 11"L X7"H(on stand) X 2"W.The bird has relief carved wings,a split tail,a thru the head,carved hardwood dowel bill ,an old staple underneath for stringing(carrying)and steel tack eyes,just as some of the original 100 + year old decoys do. The decoy has been painted with acrylic paints in the simple,yet effective "dappled/gunning"style used on Long Island at the turn of the 20th century,and displays nicely on it's small,unpainted ,driftwood base that measures approximately 6"L X 3"W.This signed,dated, unique,one of a kind peice of true American Folk Art is selling today with no reserve.This is bird #238 by DAB Sunny.
