Handcrafted Twin Beam Mortise/Marking Gauge Features: Large, 4 inch wide hardwood fence made of Maple and Bubinga. Large Bubinga adjustment knob. Stainless steel marking pins Brass wear strip in fence Two 7 inch long aluminum beams with brass slide. Hand finished with Danish oil. T must be more variety of marking gauges then just about any other hand tool. I own at least 6 distinct types of marking gauges myself. But, for so many different designs they are all meant to do basically the same thing, to mark a line or two parallel to the edge of a board. Most do the job, but some just seem to work better than others. Over the years, I've tried to develop a gauge that corrects the shortcomings I've found in other gauges such as, slow or difficult adjustments, small fences and tiny knobs. I believe our current mortise/marking gauge solves many of these problems. That being said, why bring out another mortise/marking gauge? Very simply put, I liked the twin beam design. Occasionally, I have the need to lay out a mortise less than ¼ inch wide, or closer than ¼ inch from the edge of a board. This gauge will allow that easily. To use the tool, the stainless steel marking pins on the twin beams are set to the width of the mortise desired with a ruler, then the pins distance to the fence is set and the single adjustment knob is tightened read more
