I have been in the pipe repair business for 23 years with , and just recently started making my own pipes. I start with quality aged briar, carve, drill, bore, sand, stain, buff, and polish the briar, and i fit it with a custom made stem. Most pipe makers who create their own pipes spend 90% of the work time on just the sanding (i know because they would send them to me to install a stem). because of all the hours spent on sanding, the retail of their pipes would be $200.00 to $300.00. I have decided to spend as little time on sanding as possible to keep the prices down, which means that my finish will be a little rougher, so i have decided to call my pipes "Roughriders". it will smoke as well as a more expensive pipe, but at much less of a cost, especially for a hand made pipe. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. This pipe is a very nice handmade freehand briar pipe. The top has a rough (natural bumps from under the bark) finish. It is a light brown color. The overall length is about 7 inches long, and has an orangish/brown pearlized lucite stem. It is a large size pipe, with a 3/4" bowl opening and very thick bowl walls to ensure a cool smoke. Look at pic #4 and you will see 2 minor grain pits, nothing serious...i don't put filler on/in my pipes. (I am getting better and my last 2 pipes sold for 95.00 & 122.50 read more
