Handmade Exotic Spalted Maple & Burl pen/pencil box Handcrafted single pen/pencil box This box will keep that favorite custom pen in pristine condition. Using veneers on the top and bottom of the lids allows us to use the most spectacular figures available in very exotic and rare woods; something we just couldn't do with solid wood. While certain types of wood are available with great color and figure, the very best logs usually end up at the veneer mill. We used nicely figured Spalted Maple for the body, and beautiful Chocolate colored Black Walnut Burl veneer over Walnut for the lid and keys. The Box is 2" x 2" x 7" long. Inside is a coved insert (photo #5) with your choice of 6 Ultrasuede colors; Black, Royal Blue, Aubergine purple, Red, Tan and a light Tan for the pen to nest in. We use multiple coats of a durable finish followed up with a hand rubbed coating of paste wax to give a nice soft satiny lustre. Each box is signed on the bottom by the Artisan, along with the creation date and the species of wood used.
