XQHX Vintage Japanese Iron Hannya Mask Item Description Size: 20 x 15cmWeight: 1.171kg It haｓ a tremendous impact!! The mask is made of cast iron and I was told its age is from the 1960-70's. It is in good condition but there are marks of rust on the surface. Please check my photos. A Hannya mask is a type of Japanese mask used in "Noh"-classical Japanese dance theatre that has been performed since the 14th century. All actors in a Noh play are male and wear masks to represent each character. The hannya mask is a type of ONRYO (mythological spirit, ghost) mask. The Hannya mask is solely for female characters who have been wronged by their loved one or husband. Hannya are considered by many to be the most recognizable of Noh masks.
