This volume is chock full of politics from the early Civil War era as well a a plethora of writings about the society in the United States in the early 1860's. This volume has an extremely interesting article on the "New England Confederacy" which I had never considered before reading! There are a number of descriptions of Civil War battles including the "Capture of Yorktown", the "Destruction of the Merrimac" and A "Defeat near Charleston." This book includes the continuation of Anthony Trollope's ORLEY FARM as well as another tale by him, THE SMALL HOUSE AT ALLINGTON. This volume has a fascinating article on the building of Cannons as well as several "historical" articles from previous years. All in all, there are 864 pages that are a glimpse at America and the world in the mid-19th century. Included are 256 WONDERFUL engravings! The front cover back cover and spine are scuffed and stained. The hinges are tight. There are two tears on page 103. I've found some minor foxing and on the back pages there is some minor water staining . There are many photos at the bottom of this listing. They are part of the listing description. This would be a wonderful addition to your antique book collection or your Lincoln or Civil War collection! Economy Media Mail shipping available in the US.
