This old cannon ball was found in the West Maui foothills between Olowalu town and an area known as Laniapoku. T is no record of any sea battles being fought off the coast of West Maui so how did this 4 pound cannon ball get t I found one reference from 1790 w the crew of the American ship "Ella Nora" fired on native boats in what is called the Olowalu massacre. The ships captain was Captain Simon Metcalf. T is a record of the crew of the whailing ship "John Palmer" firing its cannon at the home of a Reverend Richards. If this was the same time that whailers fired their cannons because they were not allowed shore leave I do not know. The cannon ball weighs over 4 pounds and is 3 1/2 inches in diameter. It would make a great addition to any Hawaiiana collection or a unique gift for that hard to buy for person. Thanks for looking.
