This is a Southern Traditional Folk Art FACE JUG Made by 10th Generation Cole Potter/Sculptor: Heather Gwinn (That's me!) On the bottom it has the phrase: 'It's a great day!' I was having a terrific day and wanted to share :-) This face jug is 6 inches tall and 17 inches around at the widest point-- On the bottom it also has my name and the year....This jug is very sturdy, unique, and the only one I've made like it---He has a big pointy nose and staring eyes, detailed features and a smooth pull handle---I loooove the handle and the glaze, mostly. The glaze is a special mottled look, that I figured out how to do totally by accident. I'm glad I remembered what I did! Hope you like it! The jug is hand thrown, one of a kind, HIGH FIRED and completely safe. Take a look! TONS of pictures! It's a perfect vessel for flowers, water, liquor, wine, tea...etc...etc... Some more information: A lot of people ask me about my family--I'm not sure how to summarize it best---I am A.R. Cole's great granddaughter, my great uncle is G.F. Cole, Great Aunts are Neolia and Celia Cole and my mother is Sandy Cole---In a nutshell: I have a lot of people to look up to! I also have a lot of history to hold up to and tradition to respect. I try to do both, as best I can, while creating art. For people who don't know me yet or are looking at my work for the first time, I'm not sure what to write about myself. I think this is the tricky part for most artists. I mean...what do you say about yourself??? Briefly: I love what I do and always keep my fingers crossed that my art will make someone smile or that they'll like it enough to want to proudly display it in their home...workplace...etc...etc I absolutely adore the thought that my work might someday be passed down from generation to generation, just as it's been done with the rest of my family's pottery. Being a 10th generation Cole potter is a true honor and I hope I am doing my best to represent all the wonderful folk artists who have passed on, as well as the ones who still continue to put their hands in clay every day. My work ethic, in a nutshell: I try my absolute best to make every single face with a new idea in mind. I dread the idea of anyone purchasing a face jug from me and then have them see a 'cookie cutter' duplicate in someone else's collection. Instead, I'd prefer to know that each jug is as original as I can make it. Like a fingerprint. When all is said and done, I think the most important thing for you to know is that (upon receipt of your purchase) you'll not only be holding a piece of pottery but also a piece of me...my history...my mind...my thoughts and my true artistic intentions---There's a lot of effort and heart involved in this process and I humbly try to give it to you as best as I possibly can--- :-) -------ABOUT JEFF BROWN----- Most of my recent face jug listings are very special to me. The jug portions are thrown by my dear friend Jeff Brown. We've been collaborating for several months now and it's absolutely terrific... Jeff is originally from North Carolina but has been in the New England area for many years and has made quite a name for himself. I must tell you that it's quite an honor to have such a fabulous potter create a blank 'canvas' for me to put my faces on. These new face jugs are made with the highest quality and standards.
