While assembled to get a beginner started with everything he needs in one place this is not beginner equipment and is a set that will stay with you forever. All of the components are first class and will not need upgrading for you to continue to enjoy straight razor shaving. T are many sets out t on the market but look closely at w they are made, whether they have been hand honed and at the size and quality of the strops. You cannot learn to shave with poor equipment, razors that will not take or hold an edge, rough, undersized strops, etc...... The best equipment will be German or USA made and come from dealers who understand what is involved in shaving with these tools. I use and make these items every day and am active on all the internet shaving boards offering advice and instruction daily. A good resource for anyone getting started are the forums at The heart of this kit is a new, even nicer quality 5/8 round point Solingen Germany made Dovo #38 Swedish Steel straight razor that will take and hold an edge and will last you a lifetime. You also get my own Heirloom Razor Strop Co. #3 Hanging Barber's Strop , USA made right in my shop. The set also includes an unbreakable, Wm. Marvey "Barbershop" mug, a Burma Shave boar bristle brush that will quickly raise a good lather, a cake of William's shaving soap, a 2 oz. bottle of my strop dressing and finally a Pinaud's Styptic pencil for those little nicks! I include complete instructions on learning to shave and for use of the strops. The hanging strop included in this kit is the traditional 2 part design with a new top grain, honey brown vegetable tanned leather and my own special heavy barbers linen. It is a full sized, 2 1/2" x 24" strop that you will not outgrow as you learn to shave and has just been upgraded with much nicer hardware. The hanging strop is used to align a razors edge before each shave. While a very traditional and useful tool for daily, before shave stropping it is best when suplimented with a hone or abrasive pasted paddle strop at some point, usually after a few months, to allow for easier sharpening of your razor. Please note, no new razor is ready to shave right out of the box despite what many dealers will tell you. New razors must be honed first to be shave ready. Each razor in these sets is hand honed on a Belgian Coticule stone before I ship it so you can concentrate on shaving, not learning to sharpen when you first get your set. This is a complete, quality kit with everything you need for a long time. The razor is from the premier German razor maker, Dovo and the mug, brush and soap are the best available in this price range and the Heirloom strops are my own product, USA made right in my shop, by hand from the best leathers and hardware available.
