is a very unusual, quite large folding knife which I believe is called a "swingback" knife. really don't know the age but it appears quite old. I also am not sure of its purpose--whether it was a hunting knfe or a militay knife or had some other purpose. On the blade is stamped "J.A. HENCKELS" and also is stamped the Henckel "Twin" insignia. The handle is stag horn with what appears to be silver fittings. When the knife is folded in the case it is 8 3/4" long with a 4" blade. When the knife is extended it is 12 1/4" overall length with a 7/1/2" blade. It is a very sturdy blade being 3/4" wide and 3/16" thick at the hilt. The knife unfolds by pressing a silver button on the side of the handle. The two silver hilt guards fold out to protect the hand. The knife folds back by depressing a rectangular knob on the top of the handle. The case is a heavy formed leather case with a stitched-on belt loop and the knife when in the case only projects 1 1/2". The knife is in very good working order--the springs and locks are very good. The blade appears to have been flat sharpened once because the blade was originally hollow ground. The condition is very good with no chips or nicks in the blade but it has the typical marks and pits of age. It looks like a carbon steel blade. The staghorn handle is very good for its age with no cracks--just a tiny read more
