This lot is all 10 collections, published from 1952-1987, of editorial cartoons by 3.5-time Pulitzer Prize winner Herblock (Herbert Block) with extensive and incisive commentary on what they depict. All hardbacks, all first editions, first printings except as noted. 1. The Herblock Book (Beacon Press, 1952, 2nd printing) - the dustcover has high praise from Carl Sandburg, Eric Sevareid, Al Capp, Stuart Chase, Elmer Davis, Archibald Macleish, Eric Sevareid, Drew Pearson, James B. Reston, and a number of other people I don't recognize 70 years later. 2. Herblock's Here and Now (Simon and Schuster, 1955, 2nd printing) 3. Herblock's Special for Today (Simon and Schuster, 1958) - '430 cartoons and 30,000 words of text by Herbert Block'. At the going rate for pictures, that's 460,000 words. 4. Straight Herblock (Simon and Schuster, 1964) 5. The Herblock Gallery (Simon and Schuster, 1968) 6. Herblock's State of the Nation (Simon and Schuster, 1972) - dustcover plaudits from Jack Anderson, Ramsey Clark, Bruce Catton, John W. Gardner, Edward M. Kennedy, Al Hirschfeld, Ralph Nader, William Proxmire, John Chancellor, Cornelius Ryan, John V. Lindsay, W. Averell Harriman, and others. 7. Herblock Special Report (W.W. Norton & Co., 1974) - 'Words and pictures on Nixon's career from freshman congressman to "full, free, and absolute pardon."' 8. read more
