HERMES ROCKET LOW PROFILE PORTABLE VINTAGE TYPEWRITER WITH METAL COVER SERIAL NO. 5218755 (1941) SWITZERLAND This typewriter was given to my daughter by her paternal grandfather who served in the United States Air Force in Germany in the 1940’s. The typewriter is in excellent condition both in appearance and operationally, and comes with it’s old ribbon. The old ribbon is even able to produce type (though faint). I included a picture of typing on a piece of white paper. All keys are working and the carriage return bell even works. (If only our present day computers would last this long without problems J ) If you actually plan to use for typing, it will need cleaning and a new ribbon I have taken pictures of all angles and with the cover on and off. The bottom of the typewriter is metal and forms the base for the cover. The cover is very is easy to snap on and off. To remove the cover, you press the two silver buttons on the top front. The cover has some scratches as would be expected for a portable typewriter that actually was carried around. (See pictures) The typewriter is grey metal and weighs about 9 lbs. It measures 11”x11”x2-¾”. The back of the typewriter states: "Hermes. Made in Switzerland by Paillard S.A., Yverdon. Distributed in the U.S.A. by Paillard Products Inc. 265 Madison Ave. New York 16, N.Y." The serial number read more
