This is a great stag-handled Bowie knife and sheath in very good condition. It was manufactured by the Wilh. Weltersbach firm in Solingen, Germany. According to "Goin's Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings", the company was in business from 1882 until 1994 and was well-known for producing high-quality knives. I do know you don't see many of this manufacturer's knives anymore (they're very rarely seen on Ebay and right now t's none) and when you do they are usually beat up. To find one in this condition only happens once in a blue moon. I guess we're the lucky ones because it has been used but not abused. The blade has a blood groove and is 4 7/8" long with the knife being 9" long overall. The blade has been lightly sharpened by someone who knew what they were doing and it remains sharp. The sharpening left a number of very light scratches but I believe they will buff out easily if you're a collector. The knife has a double-curved brass guard as well as the customary brass retaining nut in the aluminum pommel. The one-piece handle is made of quality stag, is very good-looking and fits the hand well. The leather sheath has all its rivets and stitching with the exception of 4 missing stitches. The leather keeper snaps open and shut with ease. If I was keeping it, the knife would definitely go back in my collection, but this is another one read more
