Though more prominently known as one of 26 recognized "HighwaymenArtists" of Fort Pierce, Florida, Willie Daniels paintings convey the heart of one. The Highwaymen were an association of young African-American artists who painted Florida landscapes in 1950s and 1960s. Willie Daniels began painting in the mid-1960s. Al Black sold many of his paintings and some paintings with Al Black’s signature were actually done by Daniels. He was the youngest of the group of early Highwaymen. Willie’s younger brother, Johnny (“Hook”) Daniels, paints religious scenes and wildlife, as well as landscapes. The Daniels brothers live in Fort Pierce, Florida, where they have their own art gallery.
