Vintage 1940s Hillcraft FAMILY-OWNED Handmade Jewelry Black Four-Bead DanglesSlip-On Earrings THE LAST OF THE HILLCRAFT FAMILY'S INVENTORY NOT IN BOX OR PACKAGING NEVER USEDAs they are nearly 80 years old, the metal parts may need some cleaning. My client's great uncle Chamberlain, started the Hillcraft Handmade Jewelry Company in the 1940s. All of the last of her family's original Hillcraft handmade jewelry inventory (around 200 pieces) from that time, will be listed in this store. Hillcraft started in a Tuberculosis Sanatorium in Rockville, Indiana in the 1940s, when my client's great uncle Chamberlain, used occupational thereapy to fight a nine year stay. His success enlarged the therapy to other patients needing activity and financial help. He ended up having a shop outside the sanitorium, but each piece was still hand made carefully, by the physically handicapped using only the finest of materials. The Hillcraft jewelry became well known for its originality of design and lasting beauty. Women's groups from coast to coast sold the jewelry only through their house parties, clubs, organizations or personal representatives. It became the ideal fund raising plan. Over 1,000 quality items in the Hillcraft line brought in profits to the charitable groups and to the handicapped.
