Lovely vintage doll figure which was brought back from Japan during the occupation after WWll. I believe she pre-dates that time. Many of the items that the owner has, were already vintage when they got them in the early 1950's. This is a Hinamatsuri or Mebina Empress doll that would be used in the girl's day festival on March 3 each year. She is on a black laquer platform (not attached) which is 6.5" by 9.5" and has an inset of lovely purple silk. She holds a fan and has a very elaborate hair dressing and inset eyes. She has an open mouth with tongue and her upper lip is carved, but not painted. Minor paint loss to her right hand. This does not detract. The line across her face is a hair- not a crack. I have two of these, but the other one is a closed mouth. The costumes are virtually identical. Their hands are slightly different. This is a final sale and will come to you carefully packed and insured. I will combine postage on items that can safely be shipped together, so please look at my other Asian items. Thanks.
