“ Histoire des chevaliers hospitaliers de S. Jean de Jérusalem appellés depuis chevaliers de Rhodes, et aujourd'hui chevaliers de Malthe “ by Abbé De Vertot, is a new expanded edition, containing the laws of the Order and the names of the Knights. This is a seven-volume, leather-bound set, published by Chez le Clerc (Paris), dated 1761 on the title pages. There are 608, 502, 564, 540, 534, 480, 444 pages in a 3-3/4”W 6-5/8”H format. Volume V contains a Table of Contents for Volumes I-V. Volumes VI and VII each have their own Table. "The Hospitallers of St. John of Jerusalem was the most important of all the military orders, both for the extent of its area and for its duration. It is said to have existed before the Crusades and is not extinct at the present time. During this long career it has not always borne the same name. Known as Hospitallers of Jerusalem until 1309, the members were called Knights of Rhodes from 1309 till 1522, and have been called Knights of Malta since 1530.
