This great tankard was made from a WW2 shell casing. It is engraved with various scenes/timeline from the North Africa campaign of World War 2 and engraved with "Brass used for the manufacture of this tankard was salvaged from the Battlefields of North Africa". .It depicts the 8th Army's campaign against Rommel's Africa Korps & the Italian Army during the Desert war. The engravings note: "8 Nov 1942 American landings in Morocco; 15 Nov 1942 The First Army invades Algeria and proceeds to Tunisia; Casablanca, Roosevelt, Churchill De Gaule meet; 23 October 1942 Gen. Montgomery attacks at Alamein; 2 Nov 1942 Retreat of Rommel; 13 Nov 1942 Tobruk falls; 20 Nov 1942 Benghazi falls; 12 Dec 1942 El Agheila falls; 21 Dec 1942 Syrte falls; 23 Jan 1943 Tripoli falls; 23 March 1943 Mareth Line Flanks; 2 April 1942 Kairouan falls; 7 May 1943 Bizerte and Tunis fall; The North African campaign ends on the 13 May 1943."The entire surface of the tankard has a map of North Africa and is labeled with plenty of names, arrows pointing out various battlegrounds, and has a lot of descriptions. There are also engraved pictures of tanks, soldiers, battleships, etc. It is a unique find! It needs a bit of cleaning, but I will leave that up to the buyer.
