Volume one has 90 full page black and white plates, 36 figures in text, 5 large foldout maps (The Orient, Babylonia, The Assyrian Empire, Greece and Asia Minor, and The Persian Empire/Empire of Alexander the Great). Volume 2 has 96 plates, 12 figures in text, 2 foldout maps (Italy and The Roman Empire). Both volumes are IN NEAR FINE CONDITION .A very detailed account of the Ancient World. Volume one covers the orient (Mesopotamia, Egypt, Babylonia) and Greece from the earliest times through the Hellenistic period. Volume two is devoted entirely to Rome. A superb reference with excellent illustrations throughout both volumes.Rostovtzeff was a titan of Ancient History and one of the greats of twentieth-century historical scholarship. He taught at Yale from 1925 until his retirement in 1944. He served as President of the American Historical Association in 1935-1936.
