Beginning with descriptions of the native Indian tribes, the book also discusses English, Dutch and German Palatine settlement. Much attention is focused on the activities that took place during the Revolutionary War, including Sullivan's expedition against the Indians, and numerous tales of Indian captivities and outrages on the frontier settlements. There is also a biography of the famed rifleman, Timothy Murphy. As the population of the state increased, the need for further civil divisions resulted in the creation of Delaware County.
