Darby [several following names omitted], MDCCXX [1720], full leather covers with gilded lettering and decoration on spines and five raised bands, 5” x 8”, woodcuts, Vol. I xiii [Preface], 447 pages [text], Index 15 pages unnumbered, 3 fold-out maps [Greece, Egypt, World as Far As Is Known to the Ancients], Vol. II 430 pages [text], Index 16 unnumbered pages; CONDITION : well-preserved antiquarian volumes with light normal wear including some scuffing of covers and pages lightly age-toned, solid volumes with hinges firm and text blocks tight. NOTE : both volumes with armorial bookplate of Charles Cadogan, Esq., 1685-1776, a noted English book collector, an English soldier who rose to the rank of General, and Whig politician; in 1726, he inherited the title 1st Earl Cadogan on the death of his brother, and changed his bookplate to a more elaborate one with the name Lord Cadogan.
