I found these books in my Great Uncle's attic in a military foot locker. These look like the original printing in 1949 with hard cover. I know that he was in the Navy and the bottom of the book on the pages are stamped "Property of U.S. Navy". The front of each volume is embossed with Neptune (or Poseidon) with his trident petting a horse. The spines and cover show some wear, but all pages are in excelent condition, except for volume 4 (see below). The detail of these books is amazing, maps, diagrams, and photos. Volume 5 - The struggle for Guadalcanal August 1942 - February 1943 Volume 7 - Aleutians, Gilberts and Marshal June 1942 - April 1944 Volume 8 - New Guinea and the Marianas Volume 12 - Leyte June 1944 - January 1945 In my opinion this was an incredable find.
