I have for sale a handcrafted waterline model of the WWII armed merchant cruiser HMS Rawalpindi. The model is made from wood with plastic and brass fittings, and is displayed on an oak base with engraved name plate. The model is constructed to a scale of 1:600 with an overall length of 11 inches (280 mm). It would complement the Airfix model of the "Scharnhorst".The Rawalpindi was originally built for the P&O Line and was employed on their Indian and Far East services. In 1939 she was taken over by the Admiralty and converted to an armed merchant cruiser with 8 x 6 inch guns. On Nov 23 1939 whilst on convoy escort duty she engaged the German battleships, Scharnhorst and Gneisenau, for 40 minutes off Iceland before sinking.
