For auction is this previously owned Proto 2000 Alco RSC2. This is Life Like catalog number 31292 decorated for the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railway...the Milwaukee Road and carrying road number 992. The item you will receive has been run previously, has nothing missing or broken and has been test run. It comes in its original box and has the original insert in the box but both flaps on the box have been beaten up a bit. If you were hanging around Wisconsin in the early 1970s you would likely have seen these Alco road switchers in the twilight of their career. Unlike today, when 6 axles are equivalent to brute force, these Alco road switchers were designed for light trackage, the axles spreading the weight over 6 points of contact on the rail instead of 4. This made for lighter bridge loadings, easier operation on lighter trackage and as a result, less maintenance on branch line railroads. Only 86 of these unusual locomotives were produced and the Milwaukee owned just over 25% of the production. 992 is an original road number and by 1974, most of these locomotives were sold, the ones remaining on the Milwaukee being modified to a low, short hood.
