AMERICAN BRILLIANT CUT GLASS 8” FLOWER CENTER PLUTO PATTERN RARE ~ 4-3 J. HOARE This is a rare flower center cut in the Pluto pattern by Hoare . The J. Hoare & Company operated out of Corning, NY between 1853-1920. They were known as a pioneer in glass cutting and were one of the leading producers of rich cut glass during the American Brilliant period. This pattern is shown on page 84 of the “Encyclopedia of American Cut and Engraved Glass” Vol. I. by Pearson. Pearson rated this pattern 4-3. The 4 for being rare in rarity and the 3 is for being one of the most desirable in quality/price range. This piece measures approx. 5 ½�€ tall and is 8” in diameter at the body. It is heavy and weighs approx. 5 lbs. 9 oz. The top edge has a “petal” scalloped cut. The neck is fluted and has a triple miter ring in the middle. The upper part of the piece is cut with a chain of 16 pt. hobstars that have a rayed star button. The stars are separated by crosshatched triangles. The midsection of the body has a very deep miter ring cut all the way around it. Under the miter, the body is cut with a row of beaded prisms. The bottom is cut with a large 32 point rayed star.
