Borso d'Este, the Duke of Ferrara, commissioned his bible in 1455. With more than 1,000 illustrations, the border on each page is sumptuously decorated with lovely vermilion and blue rosettes, gold ornamentation, delicate butterflies, birds, deer, trumpet-blowing angels, fierce dragons, and charming miniature scenes in perfect harmony with the biblical stories.
