Biblia sacra Vulgatae editionis, Sixti V et Clementis VIII jussu recognita atque edita. Londini, sumptibus Samuelis Bagster, 1841. Original blindstamped leather boards, ornately designed with intricate patterns, showing light wear, mostly to edges. Spine has gilt title BIBLIA SACRA which is still quite clear. Marbled page edges. Interior lightly browned and worn, but quite clean. Hinges intact and pages all bound, although small section of about 20 pages in center has slightly pulled from spine, but still securely attached. Measures 4" x 6.5". Contains both the Vetus Testamentum and Novum Testamentum. A card has been laid in the book stating the following: “A Latin Bible, after the Vulgate edition. From the Library of one of my Dakota Conference brethren. His widow gave me a fine India paper leather King James Bible; I lost it in a tornado which wrecked one of my churches in 1933.” In th front t here is an inscription which reads: “Presented to the Rev. R. Merrill Powers by his brother, the Rev. G.A. Doolittle. Originally from the library of the Rev. George N. Gage.” Great Bible which is extremely rare, with provenance.
