GOOD to VERY GOOD CONDITION This sale is for a large size quality vintage hardback FIRST FOLIO SOCIETY EDITION entitled “ The Odyssey ,” by Homer , translated in selection by F. L. Lucas and illustrations engraved on copper by John Buckland-Wright, including a frontispiece. It was published by The Folio Society, of London , in MCMXLVIII and is the 1948 FIRST FOLIO SOCIETY EDITION (stated). This was one of the earliest of the Folio Society productions – their 11 th title. The contents include: · The Debate in Ithica · The Old Man of the Sea · The Message of Hermes to Calypso · The Sailing of Odysseus from Ogygia · Nausicaa · Odysseus and Demodocus · Lotus-Land and the Cyclops’ Cave · Circe · The Kingdom of Death · Odysseus’ Return to Ithica · The Tale of Eumaeus · Odysseus and His Son · The Death of Argus · Odysseus and Eurycleia · The Vision of Theoclymenus · The Slaying of the Suitors · The Reunion of Odysseus and Penelope · Odysseus and His Father The book measures 10 inches x 6.5 inches and has 135 pages, which are gilt edged to the top rims. The book is in very good neat condition for its age, with minor wear/bumps and is a little grubby/faded to the original buckram cloth hardback cover, with a previous owner’s signature at the front, foxing near the covers/rims, and no other ink or pencil markings in
