This lot contains 1 HOn3 Brass K-36, 2-8-2 custom painted and lettered for the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. This Balboa model is from my personal collection and does not have its original box. When I purchased this locomotive it was unpainted. I intended to use this with my DCC layout. I painted and lettered it as you see it. is what I did in preparation for DCC. I drilled out the head and tender lights and installed LED lights. I drilled a small hole in the coal bin in order to connect a speaker. (I did install the speaker but have removed it for the purpose of selling it.) I made a coal load from screen and coal which looks good and works great for allowing sound to pass through. I installed a can motor and installed wipers on all 8 tender wheels. This is a process I use on all my locomotives. At this point the locomotive was operating well but I intended to replace the gear box with a NWSL gear box in order to achieve quieter operation before installing a sound decoder. 484 has been sitting on my display shelf for 2 years and I have decided to sell it as I have too many other projects to attend to. In its current state, the engine runs quite good and with the can motor it runs quieter than it would with the original open frame motor.
