HOPATCONG FERRY Lackawanna Railroad c. 1920 Argo Gloss Shipping Info Description Vintage rppc: The steamboat ferry Hopatcong of the Lackawanna Railroad, circa 1910's-1920's This is a small vintage rppc / real photo postcard, b&w and glossy, measuring roughly 5.25 by 3 inches. On the back is some general post card info and an ink stamp that says "Argo Gloss" - this might have been part of a promotional series of postcards issued by Argo Gloss Corn Starch in the early 19th century. A great image of a passenger ferry steamboat called the "Hopatcong", of the Lackawanna Railroad, with both of those names clearly visible on the boat. A busy pier and other ships are visible in the background. The Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad Company (also called Lackawanna RR, DL&W, Erie Lackawanna RR, and others at one time or another), which connected Pennsylvania's Lackawanna Valley to Hoboken, New Jersey, and Buffalo and Oswego, New York; they also had ferry and rail service to New York City. The boat is likely named for Lake Hopatcong or the town of Hopatcong, New Jersey. It has black paper residue to two corners and one chipped corner, and some moderate dents and scuffs. Condition overall is Good. (Vintage & Antique Photographs, RPPC, Postcards, Boats, Ships, Steamboats, Passenger Ferry, Railroads, Transportation, History, Business, read more
