From the renowned Hornsea Pottery company that closed down some 15 years ago, in the year 2000. This fantastic RARE Clappison classic. Designed by the reputable and outstanding John Clappison who has sadly now passed away. There are examples of these mugs in the V&A........................... The Zodiac series in the form of the "newsprint" design Sagittarius - Wonderful little Monkey, grasping an arrow in one hand and a bow in the other. What a classic, clever JC mug. Superb detail, its Clappison at his very best... Very tactile . Colour - I would describe it as an apple white on black. Standing 3.5 inches tall, 4.5 inches across to edge of handle and from 1972, a very early example..Extremely rare and an early Clappison mug............. So many collectors will want this one, especially in this condition Classic JC design from 1972 which is very collectable and clearly marked on the base with the Hornsea base stamp and the dots that confirm , its from 1972.. A really fine example. In really great condition ( NEVER USED ) and a lovely glaze to it. You will find it hard to get a better example...............I assure you....................
