A very collectable Horse Brass of the Life Boat Lizzie Porter. Amazing detail with “Holy Island 1909” along the top. Holy Island, otherwise known as Lindisfarne, is a mound of rock off the Northumberland coast in the north east of England. Holy island can only be reached when the tide is out. It is one of the oldest Christian centres in Britain. Saint Aidan founded a monastery here in 635; St Cuthbert became Bishop in 684. In the middle of the Horse Brass is a very detailed Life Boat, The Lizzie Porter, which was based nearby. Along the bottom of the Brass is “The National Life Boat Museum”. This is a unique Horse Brass, oval in shape 80mm across. The Horse Brass is approx 3inches (75mm) in diameter, individually cast in sand of solid English Brass.
