It opened in 1871, just 13 days before the great Chicago fire when it burned to the ground. Chicago real estate baron, Potter Palmer, built a new hotel which is now credited with being the longest continuoulsy operating hotel in North America. The hotel housed colorful guests such as Mark Twain and Charles Dickens. This silver would be a great addition to a collection or a wonderful conversation piece to use as it depicts the elegance attributed to this grand old hotel. The condition is "hotel used." It is heavily plated and maintains the silver but it has gentle dents and scratches from years of use. Be sure to check out the smaller version of this pedestal plate.
