Offered for your consideration is a extremely rare 1905 to early 1920’s era 2 4/8” tall by 2 ¾” wide (from the tip of the spout to the opposite side of the handle) miniature china handled creamer from The West Hotel that was located in Sioux City, Iowa. This is one of their earlier patterns and is rarely seen. I’m positive not much of this particular pattern was made. Historically, work started on the West in 1903 and it wasn’t until 1905 that it opened. Finances by F.J. Donohoe, the impressive 4-story twin column hotel was located at the corner of Nebraska and 3rd Streets in the downtown of Sioux City and was advertised, in 1905, as being the “First Exclusive European Hotel in the State” of Iowa. By 1915, Donohoe had created the West Hotel Company to operate the hotel, which he became the company’s president and held that position until his death in 1921. The hotel offered grand ballrooms, a wonderful restaurant, private dining rooms, a complete barbershop, and billiards room, in addition to other fine amenities provided to its guest. In 1925, the West Hotel Co. sold its interest to the Eugene C. Eppley’s Eppley Hotel Co., which also operated other successful hotels in the Iowa area, including “The Warrior” Hotel and the Hotel Martin, both in Sioux City; the Hotel Tallcorn in Marshalltown; the Hotel Chieftain in Council Bluffs, read more
