"Old Country Buffet- THE FEAST a Master Work signed by Howard Terpning. Print number #467 of 1850 issued. Image size 33"wide X 27 3/4" high. Print size 36" wide X 31 3/4" high.Howard Terpning is known as THE STORY TELLER of the Native American Indian................ this is the story of THE FEAST ....... The characters in the print are obviously having a feast. The Shoshone were much more friendlier to the whites so there are a couple of white trappers at the feast. Any time Indians sat down to eat just about anything they considered it a feast. They are eating boiled buffalo meat, pemmican, and whatever berries were available on the plains that season. There are a total of twenty three figures in the print including children and the white trappers. You ask what is pemmican? A mixture of buffalo meat and berries pounded together and mixed with buffalo fat. The mixture was stuffed into buffalo intestines and it ended up with something which was essentially sausage. Enormous quantities would be made to see them through the winter. It was extremely nourishing and trappers who tried it said it was quite good .I purchased this print at time of issue from Greenwich Workshop in 1994. Ideally stored in print individual folio with acid free tissues either side.Shipped FLAT - Secured between two 1/4" Plywood Panels - boxed by UPSFyi: I am a read more
