HUGE Antique Scottish Cow Horn Cup Cider Beaker ca. 1910 Edwardian Glass Bottom DESCRIPTION: A Scottish cider cup made fromhighland cattle horn, dating to the Edwardian Era, ca 1910. Historically, old horn cups, spoons and ladles were fashioned by itinerant tinkers and sold back to the Scottish crofters. They are often seen in historical movies such as Braveheart, Rob Roy and Cold Mountain. This cup is all opaque, lightly polished, brown and amber horn. The set-in bottom is glass. It is larger than one usually finds - 4 1/2" tall, with about a 3" top diameter. A little sweetheart from the extensive personal collection of The Rook and the Raven. CONDITION: The horn cups I sell are all natural horn. They were made individually by hand and have been well used. This horn cup is a fine antique piece for display, but it does leak. There is a split near the bottom, as is often the case with very old horn cups. It is plainly visible in our photos. The top rim is smooth.
