Mint 12" to top of hat. 7 1/2" wide. WOW! What a rare find! a huge big & fat wonderful character doll by the famous Norweigian doll maker Ronnaug Petterssen. These dolls are found in the book "Museums in Norway". Also a book is being written by her daughter, Bodil. Information and pictures may be found at . This doll is 12" tall with a rotund huge fat hard stuffed cloth stomach. Arms & head are jointed for posing. Mint condition; no odors, holes, fading, stains, damage or repairs. All original costume and accessories. Hands are sewn with the exaggerated thumb sticking out. So cute and appealing-the only ones I have seen in 35 years in the doll business. Hard to find and especially hard to find in this mint museum quality condition. He has the original blue tag that is still sewn on his jacket. Mohair real hair. Felt type mask hard face, brass buttons, plaid pants, felt jacket,hat and shoes to fit his oversized feet. Expressive eyes and wide smiling mouth. Pictured in Moyer book page 148-151. EXHIBITION Rønnaug Pettersen's dolls Norwegian in America An Emigrant's Story RØNNAUG PETTERSEN'S DOLLS The exhibit consists of twenty-six dolls created by the Norwegian artist Rønnaug Pettersen. Mrs. Pettersen was born in Northern Norway and in her youth studied art in Germany and Spain. Before returning to Norway in 1934, she began using dolls as her primary artistic medium, and she subsequently opened a studio in Oslo.The exhibit was first created by the Norwegian Information Service as a “cultural promotion” for Norway. It comprises a wide selection of the finest dolls that Rønnaug Pettersen created between 1935 and 1975. It includes dolls in folk costume from eastern Norway, Setesdal, Telemark, Hallingdal, western Norway, Trøndelag and northern Norway. It was first opened in New York City in April 1976 by Liv Ullmann.For many years it was used across the United States as an advertisement for Norway, Norwegian culture and indeed, to promote travel to Norway. Then, after some years in storage at the Norwegian Consulate General in New York, it was donated to The Norwegian Emigrant Museum by the Norwegian Foreign Office in 2004. the exhibit has found a permanent home.
