YOU ARE BIDDING ON A GREAT SET OF UNITED NATIONS POSTAL ADMINISTRATION STAMPS The idea for the UN to issue stamps originated in 1947 with José Arce the ambassador from Argentina and president of the United Nations General Assembly , who was himself a philatelist. (The League of Nations had used overprinted Swiss stamps.) The UNPA came into existence by agreement with the U.S. in 1951, soon after the UN moved into its headquarters in Manhattan . Prior to that, the UN used the facilities of the United States Post Office Department . This is a 145 page set of UNPA stamps on WhiteACE pages spanning the first day of issue in 1951 to 1983. They are unused and (from the few I looked at) unhinged. That's not to say t aren't a few that are hinged, but my sampling was pretty thorough. They have been stored in a beat up binder since 1951. I've since removed them from the binder (to make shipping lighter and to pitch the old binder). This set contains the elusive Scott #38 souvenir sheet commemorating the 10th anniversary of the UN. Only 250,000 were made!
