This very large and highly decorative painting was discovered along with a similar 19th century Royal Artillery woolwork, which is listed seperately. This watercolour painting displays the regimental crest of the Royal Marines Light Infantry set between four images of Marines through the ages. It measures 28"x 22" in it's original frame and under glass. Each figure measures 5" tall and is beautifully painted. The latest marine depicted is dated 1885 and I suspect wears the current uniform when this was painted and also the inscription regarding the colonel in chief (see photo). As can be seen, the painting has suffered some discolouration to the white background over the years but is otherwise in good condition despite the wooden frame having lost much of it's original gilding. Possibly best suited to a museum but certainly attractive and would display well amongst any militaria collection. Offered without reserve, this probably presents the opportunity of a true bargain for an enthusiast. Because of it's size, collection from Canvey Island, Essex is more than welcome, although I can package this safely and have it delivered by my courier at cost. However, protecting such a large sheet of victorian glass could prove difficult and although I will take great care and use plenty of bubblewrap, I cannot insure the glass against read more
