1930 ICELAND 10 KRONUR PCGS AU55 DENOMINATION ON COIN EDGE Offered here today is a quite beautiful original example of this hard to find issue. It has strong eye appeal and gorgeous original patina. Details are crisp and there are no problems or distractions to note. This issue is very scarce in all grades, and only a few mint state examples have ever been located by eager collectors and presented to either PCGS or NGC for grading. The Icelandic "Althing" (parliament) was established in 930AD, making it one of the oldest parliamentary institutions in the world. In 1930 a parliamentary committee of the Althing commissioned the Saxony State Mint at Muldenhutten in Germany to mint coins of three denominations. These coins were minted to commemorate the 1000th Anniversary of the Althing. The three coins minted were a brass 2 Kronur, a silver 5 Kronur and a silver 10 Kronur. The 10 Kronur coin is a massive 45 millimeters in diameter, barely fitting the PCGS holder. Mintages were of only 20,000 of the 2 Kronur, and just 10,000 each of the 5 and 10 Kronur coins.
