In the #12 Holman Moody Coca-Cola sponsored '69 Mercury, Bobby took 7 Grand National super speedway wins in 1971, leading to a career record of 85 wins - third overall among all NASCAR drivers. Bobby had a lot of firsts: first driver to represent Coca-Cola in NASCAR & proudly driving the Coca-Cola sponsored car for 7 years, first driver to introduce 2-way radios for drivers & pit communication, first to have the mechanical skills to figure out the handling issues for the '69 Mercury resulting in numerous future race victories. Because of Bobby's historical lifetime racing accomplishments on and off the track as well as his wonderful relationship with The Coca-Cola Company, Coca-Cola asked Bobby to be the Grand Marshall for the 50th Running of the Coca-Cola 600 in May for 2009 where he drove this car, the 1969 #12 Mercury Coke car for pre-race festivities. This Special Edition 1/24 replica was produced by Icons as part of their "University of Racing Legends" series. It was developed with Bobby's personal involvement as well as that of Lee Holman of Holman Moody. Its features include an all metal diecast chassis, Holman Moody "Competition Proven" 427 power plant, detailed '71 Coke red & gold paint scheme, Bobby's Motorola radio installed inside, and the special suspension bracket that Bobby fabricated at his shop. As mentioned, this release is a special commemorative to this car being driven by Bobby on the parade laps of the 50th Running of the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, where Bobby servved as Grand Marshall of the race.
