The Bookfinder General Specialists in RARE & Antiquarian books The Idler Publisher: W. Suttaby, 1810. Full blue-green leather with gilt decorations and titles, marbled endpapers, all edges marbled. These two volumes are in good condition, having cracks to the front hinges, the inside of the hinge of volume one having been reinforced, spines and edges rubbed. The text blocks are tightly bound, with some light scattered foxing, but mainly bright and clean and tightly bound. The Idler consists of essays, all but twelve by Samuel Johnson. This is a very attractive edition in spite of the wear to the binding. On each front pastedown endpaper is the bookplate of Walter Kerr Hamilton D.D., Bishop of Salisbury, 1854. Volume One has an engraved title page, frontispiece of Sir Joshua Reynolds, who was one of the other authors, and four other plates. Volume Two has an engraved title page and one other engraved plate.
