DESCRIPTION- Offered here is a wonderful vintage Shaker Wooden Rocking Chair in 1:12 Scale made by IGMA Fellow George Hoffman in 1975. The mark on the back wrung was incised with a dremel or engraving tool "GH 10-1975". The exotic wood used has a very inconspicuous grain pattern, as you would want in a miniature. It has a nice aged patina & is over 40 years old, which is old for an artisan miniature. It features a hand woven Shaker checkered tape seat. It measures 4 & 1/16" tall X 1 & 3/4" at its widest X 2 & 5/8" deep.OTHER HOFFMAN ITEMS- I have another rocker, made by Mark Hoffman, George's son made in 1975 which is identical to this except for with a white rush-style seat as well as 2 Corner Chairs by George Hoffman & other DH artisan items in my etsy store WoodSellers & I will be adding more here & there as well as many more Shaker & Colonial Country DH miniature furniture & accessories.MAKER- George Hoffman & his wife Sally have been involved in miniatures since 1972 when they formed "The Hoffman Collection." For many years, with the help of their son Mark, they made 1/12th scale reproduction pieces of Shaker and other 18th century furniture and accessories that were sold in several of the Shaker museums across the country including Old Sturbridge Village, MA. and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Their work may be seen at the Toy and Miniature Museum of Kansas City located on the campus of University of Missouri-Kansas City. All the pieces were made with precision & attention to detail.George & Sally were among the founding charter members of the IGMA International Guild of Miniature Artists. They were a part of the founding & beginning of the IGMA. He & his wife were there during the meeting at Virginia Merrill's home in New Jersey in the fall of 1978 when it was agreed an organization needed to be formed to promote & protect the artisans which lead to the founding of the IGMA George was guild president in 1979 & he & his wife were chairmen of the 1980-81 Guild Show (the second one held).During their career George has given lectures and workshops at Cooper-Hewitt Museum, NYC, and Allentown Art Museum, Allentown, PA., among others. The Hoffmans were instructors at the Guild School in Castine ME. beginning in 1981 and continuing through 1999. The course given at the Guild School was titled "Furniture Construction Using Power Tools." George and Sally also taught at the Guild Study Program in Colonial Williamsburg for five years.He & his wife are IGMA fellows. An IGMA fellow is the Guild's highest honor, awarded to those Artisan members whose work develops into the epitome of excellence & has little room for improvement. This honor has only been bestowed upon a small group of people, currently there are only 121 & only 17 of those are furniture makers including the Hoffmans.
