Offered by Over The Blue Horizon and recently acquired from Tokyo is a very nice pictorial on the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) super battleship YAMATO. Volume 1 from a new ‘COLOR SPECIAL’ series from the well-regarded Gakken Publishing Firm, this book is the premier issue from a series combines good, large-format photos, outstanding computer generated graphics, and useful line drawings -- almost all in color, and all focused on a specific topic. In this case, it is the YAMATO – the massive IJN BB that carried the hopes of a nation on its last mission to Okinawa in 1945, only to be attacked and sunk by US carrier-based aviation. This 114-page, 7.25 x 10.25 inch softcover, was published in 2009 and although text is in Japanese, the visual presentation of information is worth the price of admission!
