Arabic versions of the New Testament: several are known, but none seems to antedate the age of Mohammed. They were made in some cases direct from the Greek, in others through the Syriac and Coptic versions. The oldest surviving manuscript is a translation from the Syriac Peshitta. Not until the 13th Century was an Arabic version sponsored by ecclesiastical authority; but in that cent. two offical revisions were made at Alexandria. The later of these, the so-called Alexandrian Vulgate, is not followed in modern printed Arabic editions of the new Testament.Opening with 1 line in beautifully large capital script and a second line in red ink , 13 lines in black and red ink. Verso contains 15 lines in black and red ink. Slight marginal tears consistant with age and use. Otherwise in good antiquariat condition. Date not on this leaf but in another section of the manuscript. 302 x 200 mm
