Illuminated Manuscripts of the British Museum - Miniatures, Borders and Initials reproduced in Gold and Colours Descriptive text by George F Warner M.A. (Assistant keeper of manuscripts) Second Series - 15 Plates . Printed by order of the trustees, London 1900 Produced and printed by William Griggs - 500 copies The first series of these facsimiles was published in 1899 as an experiment in reproducing choice examples of mediaeval illumination in their proper colours. Its reception proved so encouraging that this second series was produced in summer 1900. Plans for two more series to follow would make up a volume of 60 plates in all. The 15 plates are in remarkably good condition and many have very likely not been exposed at all. One plate has some tiny holes in each corner suggesting display at some time. This is also true of the opening plate which is laminated, (picture 4). A selection of pictures will give a good indication of the lovely standard of facsimiles in this series. Each plate has an accompanying description on a seperate page, all of which are also in excellent condition. Protector board covers - are very slightly worn and it would have had initially a tie/ ribbon closure but this has been removed but evidence of it's exsistence remains. Slightly scuffed and discoloured with some light staining on reverse, (picture read more
