Green cloth boards with title stamped in gold at cover and spine. Decorations stamped in black. Gold spine edges. Published in the late 1880s. Volume 1 : A – E. 544 pages. Fair condition. Front gutter split cleanly, so that the cover and spine detach from text block. Crown and foot of spine are bumped and have a few small tears. Though the binding is damaged, the text block is square and pages are clean and free of writing. Profusely illustrated in black and white with a few full-page color illustrations as well. Volume 2: F – O. 544 pages. Good condition. Front gutter is cracked and the linen backing is showing through. Crown and foot of spine are bumped and have a few small tears. Front cover is loose, linen backing is showing through. Crown and foot of spine are bumped through the cloth and have a few small tears. Binding is square and pages are clean and free of writing. Profusely illustrated in black and white, with a few full-color illustrations throughout. Volume 4: T – Z and Supplement. 608 pages. Good condition. Crown and foot of spine are bumped, with a single small tear at the crown. Binding is square, though the covers are a little loose. Pages are clean and free of writing. Profusely illustrated in black and white with a few full-page color illustrations throughout. One full-page color illustration is detached, but present. Though it is a little worn, this is a handsome set that could be an interesting resource.
