IMPORTANT CASED CIVIL WAR AMES MODEL 1850 PRESENTATION GRADE STAFF AND FIELD OFFICER'S SWORD Civil War Era Sword with silver grip with floral rococo scrollwork. Guard cast in gold with oval inset of two Liberty shields, flags, spears and rifles. Top of guard with eagle in flight holding laurel leaves in talons. Original gold sword knot wrapped around handle. Gold pommel engraved with thirteen stars, oak leaves and ribbons. Beautifully-etched blade with silver and gold highlights. Left side of blade decorated from tip to hilt in gold E. Pluribus Unum" and "U.S." above a standing knight and an eagle in gold with a serpent in its talons, above "Ames Mfg. Co., Chicopee, MA" in silver at the hilt. Right side of blade decorated from tip to hilt with gold array of arms with a shield, flags, swords, and helmet above a soldier holding a flag in one arm and a musket in the other, and North Wind mask in silver. Length of blade 32". Length overall 39½". Gold dress scabbard engraved "Presented to Colonel Jesse H. Moore, 115th Ill. I Infantry By the Officers and Enlisted Men of his Regiment". The names of the battles in which Colonel Moore led his regiment engraved on reverse: "McAffee Church, Wahatchie, Chickamauga, Dalton, and Resaca".
