This auction is for a truly stunning example of a highly pyritised ammonite fossil of the species Oxynoticeras lymense from the world famous Jurassic Coast beach of Charmouth, Dorset UK. The fossil measures 66mm (2 9/16 inches) across which is a good size for this species. It is beautifully preserved on both sides (which is very hard to find in this species) with absolutely stunning detail in the suture lines. Oxynoticeras are very beautiful and unique ammonites; especially heavy pyritised examples from this location. It has a stunning golden colour and shine distinctive of pyrite ammonites from this location . Around 195 million years old, this fossil would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
