Billing Antiques is a subsidiary of Chantry Fine Art ORIENTAL SELECTION INDIAN MICA PAINTINGS C1840 This extensive group of Indian mica paintings dates from circa 1840. The medium became extremely popular during the Raj and was much collected by those serving in India. The medium is inherently frail and the gouache paint is inclined to flake. This collection is no exception, though better than average. Most flaking has been filled in with matching paintwork, though in most cases this is minor - severely restored ones will be mentioned. All are mounted permanently on acid free white paper and then on acid free board. This will prevent the mica itself flaking. This work is of an Indian servant in a red jacket. There is retouching to his throat. Size 6" x 3" (15cm x 8cm) (stock 5567)
